The CROSS project, carried out in Italy in the city of Livorno, aimed to promote social change in the peripheral neighborhoods of the cities involved in the project, through the active participation of young people and urban regeneration. In particular, the project aimed to: 1) increase knowledge of the territory with an innovative approach (action research and community development) and promote the exchange of good practices with European partners; 2) increase the spaces dedicated to meetings, thus promoting active citizenship by young people in the area; 3) increase individual and group potential so that it is put at the service of the community; increase knowledge of the area of interest and promote the exchange of good practices with European partners; 4) create local support networks (associations, committees, municipalities) to increase participation in decision-making processes; spread the culture of "regeneration" of urban spaces.

The project promoted an approach aimed at giving back to young people the ability to act and transform their own life context, providing them with the tools necessary to become protagonists and activators of their own communities.

In the two years of implementation, to achieve the objectives, a series of actions were implemented, aimed at working on multiple levels: young people, communities and institutions, through the development of a methodology shared at European level. The actions implemented in all the territories involved were:

1. ReGeneration Research. Analysis and data collection on youth policies, urban conditions of the neighborhoods involved, interventions already carried out and best practices. The research was conducted through an initial 'desktop' data collection followed by interviews and focus groups with privileged witnesses.

2. Rethink by networks. Listening and participatory design actions with local communities, in particular workshops, round tables and training on urban regeneration. All the experience of the project has flowed into a digital publication that makes the methodology adopted by the project available to organizations and professionals.

3. Urban regeneration intervention design. The intervention design process was characterized by youth and community participation.
